Yao Ming would not let go of Houston Rockets, neither would they
Yao Ming’s injuries are not a new topic anymore. His injuries issue became pronounced in the 2009-10 season when he was ruled out of the season. The following year, the
Chinese centre played only five games before being ruled out of the rest of the 2010-11 season. The 7’6” tall player from China has undergone more surgeries in the last three years than anyone in NBA and this has effectively put his career to the brink.
The 30-year-old Houston Rockets superstar was on the verge of entering 2010’s summer trade as a free agent before being sidelined with stress fracture in left ankle. Because
of the same issue, the player had to re-enact the last year of his contract with the Rockets. Playing just five of 82 games this season has made the player even a more vulnerable and a risk bet.
Ming, who was selected as NBA’s first draft pick by the Houston Rockets back in 2002, still has many takers in the league. One of the most vehemently proposing teams is
the Golden State Warriors. The intimidating centre would definitely be an awesome addition to the Warriors squad, who lack depth and experience on that front. Also, with Yao comes along a huge Asian fan base that would increase Golden State’s viewership in
China, the most populated country in the world.
Yao, on the other hand, still finds it likely that he will return to his team, the Houston Rockets. The player told a publication that he hoped to stay with the Rockets.
Hoping to continue his career with the team that he loves, Yao was quoted as saying,
“I’m not sure about my recovery, and the league and players are still negotiating for a new CBA, so it’s too early to talk about it.”
He further added that it would be a tough decision for him to leave Houston, the city as well as the team. The player said that he went to Houston nine years ago to join
the team but now he has a house, a lot of friends and a daughter there. Yao said that he had gotten used to Houston’s life. He said that it would be difficult for him to leave the Rockets, as he loved the team. He was quoted as saying, “I love the team. It's
tough for me to leave Houston.”
It’s clear from his views that Yao still holds a keen desire to join the Rockets, once he goes back to the United States of America. He also shed light on how his injury would affect his return to professional
basketball. His love for the sport was apparent from the fact that the player said that he would start working out once he is back in USA.
The Rockets are also apparently as eager to have Yao back as he is to get back with them. Notwithstanding the fact that Yao is a risky option, Daryl Morey, Houston Rockets
general manager expressed his team’s desire to give him yet another try. Rockets may have been under Yao’s health’s affects for a long time, but the bond remains.
