Yap Zhen topple Lee An Chie in first round of National Junior Circuit GP Finals – Badminton News
Malaysia’s Yap Zhen has toppled Lee An Chie in the Girl’s Singles first round of the 100 Plus National Junior Circuit GP Gold 2011, at Juara Stadium, Malaysia, on Wednesday, May 18.
Yap delivered remarkable performance by playing at her best against Lee Chie and clinched the match by taking three sets in just 39 minutes.
In the first set, Lee Chie remained dominant in the major part of the set. She managed to dictate the pace of the game against the confused Yap, who failed to find her momentum throughout the opening set. At the interval, Lee Chie was leading the set
by a 11-8 difference.
After the break, Yap accelerated her speed to stop the aggressive run of the opponent, but failed as she made many unforced mistakes. Lee Chie remained successful in clinching the opening set with a 21-16 score on the board, in just 13 minutes.
In the second game, Yap changed her strategy and started to play more aggressive game by employing pushes and smashes. Lee Chie tried to control the rallies, but failed to return the perfectly executed shots of the opponent. Yap established an 11-7
lead at the end of the first half.
After the interval, Lee Chie tried to avoid high clears by becoming quicker at the net, but made some mistakes which helped the opponent in stretching her lead. Yap finished the second game by a good margin of 21-16, in 14 minutes.
In the deciding game, both girls remained neck-to-neck in the first half. It was a wonderful match where both shuttlers put up a great show of quality badminton in a packed Juara Stadium. At the end of the opening half, Yap managed to set up a slight
lead of 11-9.
Lee Chie tried to gear up her speed in the second part of the interval, but Yap spared no room for her to score the points. She consumed just 12 minutes to clinch the final set by playing flawless game with a 21-15 score. The 39-minute match ended
by 16-21, 21-16 and 21-15 score-line on the board.
