Yaraslau Shyla, Mate Delic move to the third round of Boys’ Singles – French Open 2011
Yaraslau Shyla beats Shane Vinsant 6-1, 7-5
Belarusian Yaraslau Shyla knocked out Shane Vinsant of USA in straight sets 6-1, 7-5 in the second round of boys’ singles event at French Open in Paris on Monday. The match lasted for only an hour and six minutes.
Shyla thrashed Vinsant in the opening set as he lost only one game, breaking the American twice to win the set 6-1. The Belarusian served brilliantly as he delivered seven aces and a whopping 86 percent of the first serves, bagging
76 percent of the points on them in the first set. The 18-year-old won both break points he received on Vinsant’s serve and saved the only break point he faced on his own serve in the opening set.
The Belarusian and Vinsant put on a serving display in the first ten games of the second set, holding their serve convincingly to equalise the score at 5-5. Shyla broke the American in the eleventh game and served out the set in
the next game, clinching the set 7-5. The right-handed kept troubling his opponent with the first serve throughout the set as he fired five aces and 63 percent of the first serves, bagging 86 percent of the points on them. The Belarusian capitalised on one
of the three break point opportunities he created on the American’s serve in the second set.
Shyla is slated to play Miki Jankovic of Serbia in the round of 16. The Serbian defeated Bruno Sant’Anna of Brazil 7-5, 6-4 in the second round.
Mate Delic defeats Alexios Halebian 6-1, 7-6(5)
Mate Delic of Croatia survived a late scare to dismiss American Alexios Halebian in straight sets 6-1, 7-6(5) in the second round. Delic needed just an hour and nine minutes to oust his opponent.
The Croatian broke Halebian in the second game of the opening set, blazing forward to a 3-0 lead. Delic broke again in the sixth game and consolidated on it to clinch the set 6-1 in just eighteen minutes. The unseeded made the
difference with his aggressive returns of serve, winning 60 percent of the receiving points in the first set. The Croatian converted both break points on Halebian’s serve in the opening set.
Delic and Halebian held their serve in the first seven games of the second set, taking the score to 4-3 in favour of Halebian. The American broke his opponent in the eighth game to take a 5-3 lead. However, the Croatian did not
allow Halebian to serve out the set as he broke back immediately and held his serve in the tenth game to level the score at 5-5. The set went into a tie-break and Delic captured a single mini-break to seal it 7-5.
The Croatian will take on fifth seed Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain in the third round.
