Question:

Yard drainage problem - Help!?

We have a french drain installed around the perimeter of our house, and then a longer drain pipe drains this water into the swampy area adjacent to our property. The problem is that the level of this swampy area has risen and now our drainage pipe is submerged in mucky water. We are afraid we are going to end up with a basement full of water. We tried digging out this swampy area but its getting nowhere - its just muck and water keeps coming from everywhere. Should we hire someone to come and dig up our yard to raise the level of the entire drain pipe? Or does anyone have any ideas on how to drain this swamp and somehow release our pipe without digging up the whole yard?? We cant really elbow or extend the pipe without digging a lot of the swamp out....

Thanks

  1. Sounds to me you need to install some sort of drain for the swampy area.either way I would call someone to at least come look at it.

  2. I would dig down somewhere away from your house and cap or plub up the end of this drainage pipe coming from this swamp. This drain is acting like a reverse drain and bringing swamp water back towards your home.
