Hi, I am thinking of getting a yaris lift back. I would be driving in "Country" conditions meaning it would not be city driving but it would not be highway. I will be driving to school and the average speed limit is probably 35-40 mph. What kind of MPG will I be getting? What kind of MPG do you get? Do you like your yaris, and its performance, quality, and reliability? Also how much does it cost to service your Yaris? Thank you very much

  1. A friend of mine was just involved in a major accident in her 2007 Yaris. Neither of the airbags went off despite hitting a telephone pole on the front corner. Her car was absolutely mangled thanks to terrible traction in the rain, the lightweight vehicle careening out of control, and poor safety details on Toyota's part.

It got about 34 mpg in "country" conditions but about 29 in the city.

I drove it for a few hours one day on a trip and was delighted to get back into my own car afterwards. Passing people on the highway was a MAJOR challenge. Going from 60 to anything above that meant pulling every last ounce of power from the engine. I almost felt bad to drain it so hard. At 85 it was screaming for life. It tapped out around 90. It's a real city car and should not be considered for someone who does more than city and suburban driving.

Service was cheap the one time she needed it. I think it was $60.

  2. I drive an auto-transmission '08 liftback and I usually keep my speed between 40-45 mph and I get 33-36 mpg in the city, so you'd get about the same or higher I assume.  Just dive with a light foot and you'll get some great mileage out of it.

The vehicle is pretty high quality, but it's designed as a small affordable commuter car, so there aren't any super bells and whistles, but it gets the job done.  Performs great, and is very reliable, I've only taken it in for routine service, oil changes and stuff.

I use mine mostly to get to school and work on a daily basis and I love it.
