Yarmouth Pick 6 recap: part one
Yarmouth continued its Pick 6 Jackpot Wednesday night with six legs. Here are the results from the first three legs.
1st Leg Pick 6 Jackpot A4
Conna Budgie won the first leg of the Pick 6 over 9-4 race favourite, Cloncunny Jono, by ½ a length with a time of 28.82. Budgie and Jono were neck and neck to the third bend when Budgie finally pushed
out in front on the favourite.
Finishing in third place was Speedy Cat by ¾ lengths over River Flyer. Speedy was with the leaders in the early stages of the race, but ended up finishing 2 lengths behind Jono.
Behind Flyer by 2¼ lengths was Rineen Sammy Jo in fifth and Classical Star in sixth, another length behind.
2nd Leg Pick 6 Jackpot A3
The second leg was won by one of its 5-2 joint favourites, Kingtone Connie, by 1½ lengths over Clodeen Seven O with a time of 28.73. It was close for the first half of the race with Connie, Seven O, and
Effernogue Boxer all getting off to good starts, but Boxer fell behind on the first bend and Seven O on the third, leaving Connie alone in front as they neared the finish line.
Boxer ended up finishing in third place, two lengths behind Seven O, and 2½ lengths ahead of fourth place finisher Old Road Sammy, the other joint favourite.
In fifth was Mullpark Flash by a shoulder over Newtown Ruby.
3rd Leg Pick 6 Jackpot A4
Sparklee Olivia came into the third leg with the longest odds of the group at 13-2, but a good start helped her to win the race by a length over Black Lena. Her time of 29.21 was the slowest time of all
the leg winners, but it was enough in this one.
Olivia had not done well in her past two A4 races after moving up from A5, but with this win she has made a strong bid to stay in the A4 class.
Lena and 5-2 race favourite, Tracton Rockey, who both lost ground on the first bend, came on strong in the final stretch, but Olivia was too far ahead by then. Rocket finished in third place, a length
behind Lena.
Swiss Legend stayed close to the top three, but finished a ½ length back of Rocket in fourth. Behind him in fifth by 4½ lengths was Grumble, and in last place was Ballymac Betty.
