Yarmouth's Pick 6 Jackpot recap
Yarmouth hosted the six legs of the Pick 6 Jackpot Wednesday afternoon. Each race was over 462 metres, but showcased a number of different grades.
In the first leg 6-4 race favourite, Jumgy, was quick from trap three and worked her way to the outside where she took and held the lead, finishing 4 3/4 lengths ahead of second place Ballymac Ruler. Coming in behind Ruler in third by a head was Tidy Up Lady. Tinks Diamond took fourth, Ballymac Ava fifth, and Rathin Beauty finished in sixth.
The second leg, the only A1 race of the bunch, had considerably different results regarding the race favourite, Dunmurry Mike. The 7-4 favourite had a good start, and led to the second bend, but something put Mike off, he finished the race, but ended up 17 lengths behind fifth place, which was Zoes Smile.
Zoes briefly held the lead after Mike’s slow down, but she wasn’t able to hold off the rest of the field as Newtown Sapphire took the lead from her after the third bend. Then in the final stretch Pitman Painter took the lead for good, finishing 1 ¾ lengths ahead of Sapphire to win the second leg. Perfect Mentor took third place, Hi Vuvuzela finished in fourth, and Zoes ended up all the way back in fifth spot in what was an exciting, but peculiar race.
The third leg saw a tight finish in which every hound had a chance to take the win. Prentstaff Max won after leading for the entire race, but he only beat Blonde Barley by a neck. Right behind her in third was Ice Cool Light, 3/4 lengths back, and only a head in front of fourth place finisher, Da Wagon. Another length back was Ridgedale Impact in fifth and Bladerunnerdeano took last, finishing just a shoulder behind Impact. The time difference between the six hounds in the third was leg was only 0.18 seconds.
The fourth leg saw another race favourite take first as Gold Finch finished 3 ¾ lengths ahead of Killaloe Star. Mullpark Flash was close to Star all race but couldn’t get in front of him at the finish line, ending up in third place by a shoulder. Oran Empire was another ¾ lengths behind in fourth, and Speedy Cat wasn’t speedy enough to get out of fifth although she did manage to beat Cloncunny Okee.
The fifth leg saw another race favourite finish in last place as District Nine, at 2-1, had a fine start, but just didn’t have it in him yesterday. Instead it was Glanske Rambo in first place, 3 1/2 lengths ahead of Sparklee Georgie. Annie Laurie finished a shoulder behind Georgie in third, and Rackethall Bolt finished in fourth. Clomantagh Guest claimed fifth spot. That’s three poor outings in a row that District Nine.
The last leg of the Pick 6 Jackpot saw 9-4 joint favourites bookend the field. Ridgedale Buzz took first place with little difficulty as he led early and kept the lead all race, while Cloncunny Jono stayed wide out of the sixth trap and finished in last place.
Taking second in the sixth leg was Hartwood Shadow who finished 1 1/4 lengths ahead of third place Tracton Rocket. Rabbits Vieri took fourth, and Ill See Ya finished in fifth.
