Yaroslav Rybakov and Alexei Zagorny to miss out from the World Athletics Championships in Daegu
Yaroslav Rybakov, the 30-year-old high jumper from Russia, amid a foot injury, will not be capable of representing his country at the upcoming IAAF World Athletics Championships in Daegu, to commence on August 27.
The news about the reigning world high jump champion not going to Daegu was disclosed by Russia’s head athletics coach, Valentin Maslakov, on the basis of which it can be predicted that the country will miss out a precious medal that Rybakov was tipped-off
to clinch.
Rybakov, the Mogilev-born veteran high jumper has been a 2002 European champion. The athlete, who set Russia’s national record for jumping as high as 2.38m in indoor competitions, also boasts of clinching the 2005 World Championships silver medal which he
shared with his Cuban rival, Victor Moya.
One year down the line, Rybakov, who has always believed in training hard and delivering in line with his best personal standards, attained formidable form that only ensued in getting him the World Indoor championships. In the same year, while appearing
at the 2006 European Athletics Championships held in Gothenburg, the Russian ended up for a fifth position in the final.
The following year, he earned his third silver medal at the World Championships for observing his new Personal Best of 2.35m. His efforts for improving his performance he had been depicting paid the dividends in 2009, where finally he managed to clinch gold
at the World Championships held in Berlin. At this year’s championships, the experienced athlete was expected to defend his title at the mega athletics event in South Korea.
The indoor PB he observed back in 2005, marked at the pinnacle of his form and fitness before a huge crowd in Stockholm. His effort is still remembered as an over-awing performance. After hitting the mark, he went into that perfect form several times later,
culminating in equalling his PB for three more times. This could not go unpaid and thus brought the Hochsprung mit Musik title for the Russian athlete.
Besides Rybakov, the other inform athlete who will have to miss out the flight to Daegu is Alexei Zagorny, the youngster who’s performance witnessed the best Hammer Throw of the season that landed at an emphatic 81.73m in Yerino. The reason for Zagorny not
going to South Korea for the World Championships title is a back injury, which is expected to take long before healing up completely.
Providing details of both athletes missing out from the mega athletics events, Maslakov, the coach, said, “Rybakov decided to miss the world championships; he believed he would be able to overcome his foot injury. But it is still stopping him from producing
his best result. Zagorny will also sit out the world championships. Unfortunately we failed to heal his back injury completely.”
How unfortunate the absence of both of these players will prove to be for Russia, will only be measured once the country’s performance on medal table is displayed.
