Yaroslava Shvedova chosen as the WTA Comeback Player of the Year – Tennis News
World number 29, Yaroslava Shvedova, registered a breakthrough season after a very long time and earned a reward for her non-stop hard work and continuous improvement. She is the only player in the history of tennis to win a set
without losing a single point and she accomplished that landmark in the current season against sixth ranked Italian star, Sara Errani, in the third round of the Wimbledon Championships.
Shvedova won two doubles Grand Slam titles in 2010 and reached the career high ranking of 29 at that time but incurred a knee injury and went through a surgery that limited her participation in the Women Tennis Association Tours.
She fell down to the world number 259 at one stage but fired up the show this season and kicked back to improve her career high ranking to world number 25 before ending the season at her previous career best rank. For her terrific performance, she has been
chosen as the Women Tennis Association Comeback Player of the Year.
The 25-year-old Kazakh stated, “I am very happy to get this award and honoured that the media voted for me. I was surprised when I heard the news. I am very happy and proud of my comeback this year. I worked very hard with my team
to do this and it's nice to receive the award now. It's not only for me, it's a victory me and my team.” She further added, “My biggest highlight was making a golden set. That is probably once-in-a-lifetime thing and something only one other person has done,
so it will always be very special. Also it was super exciting to qualify for the Olympics by reaching the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.”
The only thing missing to top the marvellous performances is the title for the Kazakh powerhouse. She has the quality to deliver and there is no doubt that she will backup herself to further improve her performance in the following
season that will begin in January next year. The Kazakh has been enjoying her holidays by visiting several places. She is a professional photographer as well and that definitely ignites interest in her to travel across and experience the beauty of world.
