Yaroslava Shvedova crushes Florencia Molinero in the qualifiers – Abierto Mexicano Telcel 2012
Kazakh tennis ace, Yaroslava Shvedova, drilled through the Argentinean rising star, Florencia Molinero, with a breadstick at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel 2012 on Sunday. She registered a 6-4, 6-1 victory against the 23-year-old to book a spot in the final round of qualifiers at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International event taking place in Acapulco, Mexico.
The World number 160 stayed firm throughout the match to overpower Molinero in straight sets. Facing each other for the first time, the Kazakh assertively progressed in the qualifying competition of this clay court tournament.
Shvedova nervously entered the Fairmont Acapulco Princess and lost her serve in the opening round. Despite recovering in the very next game and exchanging two serve breaks, the Kazakh capitalised on his fourth break chance in the last game and clinched the opener with a 6-4 score line.
The Kazakh defended two out of five breakpoints she encountered and converted four out of seven break chances to her advantage. She also formulated a better first serve share and acceptably clicked 10 out of 19 points on it.
The 24-year-old carried her momentum onto the following set and after earning the desiderated break in the second game, she leaped to a 2-0 lead. Regardless of losing her edge in the proceeding game, Shvedova unleashed flurry of groundstrokes and wiped out the final four games in a row.
She clobbered an exceptional first serve share of 79 percent as opposed to the Argentinean’s 44 percent and marked 14 out of 22 points on it. The Kazakh failed to defend the only breakpoint she faced but cashed in all three break opportunities to earn the spotlight.
Next up for the highly enthusiastic Kazakh is the qualifying top seed, Edina Gallovits-Hall who fended off late resistance to trash Veronica Cepede Royg from Paraguay. The Romanian lost her serve four times but broke her rival’s serve five times, eventually sealing the deal with a 7-5, 7-6(5) success.
Slovenian starlet, Petra Rampre, will join Shvedova in the next round. The Slovene took full advantage of the 17 double faults Italy’s Maria Elena Camerin committed and after cashing in six out of 13 break chances, she won the match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in two hours and 12-minutes.
Next up for Rampre is the Spanish contender, Estrella Cabeza Candela, who rallied past her compatriot, Gabrine Muguruza Blanco in three sets to secure this spot.
