Yaroslava Shvedova crushes qualifier Shuko Aoyama in opening round – HP Japan Open 2011
Kazakh qualifier Yaroslava Shvedova crushed Japanese qualifier Shuko Aoyama in the main draw of the HP Japan Open 2011. On Tuesday the 11th of October the players took up the gauntlet on outdoor hard courts of the Utsubo Tennis Center in Osaka,
Japan. After just sixty nine minutes the Kazakh underdog breezed past the Japanese qualifier in straight sets of 6-2, 6-0.
Commencing the initial round of the match was Aoyama, who double faulted during the first game and endorsed a game to her Kazakh challenger. Shvedova profited from an early break and as she held serve in the second game, she placed herself on the scoreboard
at 2-0. She repeated the feat and by the end of the fourth game was leading with a 4-0 score.
It was in the fifth game that the sleeping beauty (Aoyama) made a return and from their onwards the players kept winning on alternate serves for the following three games and the scoreboard progressed at 5-2. During the last game, Shvedova smashed the successive
aces and bagged an easy opening set victory of 6-2.
As Shvedova powered through the first set, she set the tone for the second and opening for the second round of the was again Aoyama, who got off to a bad start as she double faulted on her second serve of the first game. On the other hand, Shvedova not only
capitalized on an early break but by winning her first service game she led the scoreboard with a 2-0.
Shvedova continuously assaulted her Japanese opponent in the third and the fourth game and further increased her lead to 4-0 by the end of the fourth game. She again repeated the feat to conquer a bagel set victory of the second set.
The Kazakh was the dominant player amongst the two and was not broken once in the entire match. She capitalized on five out of the eight breakpoint chances and in doing so reserved a spot in the second round of the HP Japan Open 2011 where she will be facing
seventh seeded South African Chanelle Scheepers.
