Yaroslava Shvedova dismisses Tamarine Tanasugarn in 1st round – Hansol Korea Open 2011
Qualifier Yaroslava Shvedova dismissed Thai Tamarine Tanasugarn in the opening draw of the Hansol Korea Open 2011. Both the players battled it out on the hard courts of Olympic Tennis Courts in Seoul, South Korea on the 20th of
September 2011. After fifty six minutes of play, the Kazak Shvedova won in straight sets of a 6-2 and bagel victory (6-0).
Shvedova was first to open the set and won the initial game to successfully place herself on the score board at 1-0. In the following three games the two were neck on neck onto each other and kept winning on alternative serves
to tie the score at 2-2. Until the sixth game, the Kazak was able to break her adversary’s serve to take the lead at 4-2. Then she won on her respective serve in the seventh game and she was now at an essential stage in the game.
As Tanasugarn served for the eighth game, Shvedova seized the opportunity and broke her Thai for the second and the last time. By restraining her opponent to only two games in the set, Shvedova clogged the opening set effortlessly.
Shvedova powered through the first set and set the tone for the second. Dominating from the very beginning the Kazakh initiated the set with a resoluteness to bag a flawless victory.
From the very first set Shvedova went on to breaking her adversary and was comfortably able to place herself on the scoreboard. She then went on to eventually breaking Tanasugarn first in the second game to take a mini lead of
2-0. In the third game she again won on her respective serve and in the fourth broke her opponent by rushing forward towards the net to produce a striking volley. As she managed to h old her serve in the fifth game the score was 5-0 for the Kazakh and was
now looking to break her opponent for the third and last time.
Amidst the sixth game as the Thai served to stay in the match Shvedova broke her and conquered a flawless victory in the second set.
The Kazakh, Shvedova dominated both the sets from the start and was able to comfortably secure a berth in the next round.
