Yaroslava Shvedova outclasses Monica Puig to bag the title - Poza Rica Challenger 2012
Kazakh starlet, Yaroslava Shvedova, outclassed the 18-years-old Puerto Rico citizen, Monica Puig, in the final of the Poza Rica Challenger to bag the title. She was the top seed player and ended the resistance of her opponent in
straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
Taking a look at the previous matches, both players were in cracking form having won most of their encounters in the recent past. Puig had lost three of her last ten face-offs at the courts whilst her opponent had just faced one
defeat in the final of the Irapuato Challenger earlier this month.
The match was completely hijacked by the Kazakh who commenced the proceedings with a classy cross-court winner to bag the first breakpoint. She went on to win another breakthrough at the end of the third game. A successful serve
hold compiled a monumental lead of 4-0 for the second seed.
An exchange of breakpoints kept her lead intact and she broke for the fourth time in the set to accomplish her goal. The job was half done and the scenario was looking very fruitful for the second seed Kazakh who had just gifted
a single game to her opponent in the first half.
Puerto Rican contestant saw herself two games down at the start of the second set when she lost breakpoint in the second game. It was getting pretty ominous for her as she was being junked away to all corners of the courts at the
will of the Kazakh opponent.
The first face-off between the two players was turning out to be a breathtaking one for the 148th ranked Kazakh while on the other hand, the 202nd ranked Puerto Rican teen was going through the most painful
time of the tournament.
Shvedova continued her onslaught and bagged a couple of games in quick succession before her opponent bagged the first game of the set. Scores already flew to 5-1 at that stage and both players registered serve hold at each ends
to end the match; much to the delight of the Kazakh who was playing her second challenger final of March.
She lifted the trophy and left the arena in an exhilarating mood.
