Yaroslava Shvedova upsets Rika Fujiwara in final qualies – Hansol Korea Open 2011
Eighth seeded Yaroslava Shvedova clashed with third seeded Rika Fujiwara in the final qualifying round of the Hansol Korea Open 2011. The two battled it out on the hard courts of Olympic Tennis Courts in Seoul, South Korea on 19th of
September 2011. Shvedova made history by finishing the match in just 19 minutes! After 19 minutes of the match Kazakh Yaroslava won in straight sets with a double bagel victory 6-0, 6-0.
Subsequently, after winning the toss, the first to open was Fujiwara but it was a bad start as she was broken in the first game. In the second game Shvedova smashed two winners at 30-love and without much opposition she bagged
an easy game. In the third game she again broke the third seed and took a lead of 3-0.
In the fourth game Yaroslava held her serve and then went on to breaking her opponent for the third and last time in the fifth game. With a big serve Yaroslava smashed an ace and a winner to bag the opening set.
After 9 minutes of play, Yaroslava nailed the first set. The number three seeded Fujiwara lost her serve early and was unable to bounce back into the set. Shvedova quickly pounced at all the opportunities thrown at her by Fujiwara
and shifted to an assertive play. Shvedova accomplished six games in a row to win the first set on a comprehensive note.
Opening the second set was Yaroslava and she quickly put herself on the scoreboard by winning the first game of her serve. Shvedova broke her adversary in the second game and crushed her confidence from the very start.
From there onwards it was Shvedova, who not only won on her own serve but broke her rival for another two more times to secure a flawless bagel victory (6-0).
Shvedova was able to conquer the entire match without letting herself being broken in the entire match and with such agility and technique; she mastered both the sets in a matter of few minutes.
As the two shook hands the crowd cheered for both of them. With this triumph Shvedova was able to secure a berth in the main draw of the Hansol Korea Open 2011.
