Yas Marina in form to dominate the Mirror Punters Club Handicap with Silvestre De Sousa onboard
The Class 6 Mirror Punters Club Handicap failed to pull together a strong line-up for the mile and six furlong race at Southwell on Tuesday, 10th July. The eight four-year and above contenders have nothing impressive on their profiles. The entry
most likely to hawk on the £1,704 prize money is the four-year-old bay gelding, Yas Marina.
There are possibilities that Bernardini’s bay gelding will be receptive towards the fibre sand track today. He has raced on almost all the ground conditions through the six career outings that he undertook during the two seasons – 2010 and 2012. However,
as the majority of the other contestants on the track, the four-year-old could not come out victorious from any of the races.
The last attempt of the four-year-old out of mare, Silvery Swan, at Southwell was in the Betfred Mobile Sports Handicap on 9th May, 2012 over a mile. Hilbre Court won the race while Yas Marina ended ninth on the track of thirteen runners.
The seasonal debut of the David O’Meara trained was in the Racinguk.com Maiden Stakes on 11th April, 2012 at Catterick over six furlongs. This chance he lost to the seventh position behind the winner, Alive And Kicking.
The most recent attempt of the Needham/Betz Thoroughbreds Et Al bred at breaking the monotony of losing one race after the other was in the Come Racing Again Tomorrow Handicap on 4th June, 2012 at the Redcar race course over a mile and six furlongs.
As the rest, this race too went down the drain as the American bay gelding ended eighth in the field of ten.
The race was won by, Madrasa who dominated the field by the margin of five lengths.
Yas Marina has raced under the guidance of three different jockeys but the effort remained non productive. Even with the genius of his profession, Mickael Barzalona, the bay gelding failed to perform.
Today, he is teamed up with one of the best riders, Silvestre De Sousa, and to top that off, the four-year-old will race with blinkers for the first time. How effectively will the combination work for Yas Marina, will not take too long to unfold.
