Yasir Hameed apologises to PCB
Pakistan Test cricketer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Hameed-c2811 has apologised to the Pakistan Cricket Board over the controversial interview he gave to a British tabloid in which he was involved in mud-slinging on Pakistan players.
The interview created hype after “News of the World” had alleged three Pakistani players were involved in spot-fixing during the Lord’s Test. The players including the then captain Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were provisionally suspended
by the International Cricket Council following the controversy.
After the interview, Hameed was dropped from the team for the ODI series against England and was not considered for the New Zealand tour as well. Hameed insisted that although the under-cover reporter asked many questions to him regarding the spot-fixing
incident, he did not speak a word about it.
Hameed met the PCB Chairman to get clearance from the board. He said that he wanted to represent his team at the international level and for that, he apologised to the Chairman and members of the board.
He said, “I was wrong to meet the reporter without permission of the team management but still I had no idea that the newsman was taping the general conversation he was having with him.”
A PCB spokesman said, “Yasir has submitted an unconditional apology to the PCB chairman and requested him for pardon. The batsman has said that he wants to be considered for national selection again.”
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team is currently touring New Zealand where they have already lost the Twenty20 series. The team will also play a Test and an ODI series this month. PCB has not yet announced the squad for the ODIs and the board is yet to name a 30-man preliminary
squad for the World Cup as well.
Hameed will be hoping that he gets selected for the ODI squad for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 so that he can prove his form and fitness. Now that he has apologised to the board, he may also be a part of the World Cup probables.
The deadline for submission of the World Cup probables for the PCB is 5 January 2011. All the other teams have already submitted their preliminary squads to the ICC.
