Yasir Hameed impressed by the standard of cricket in the President’s Trophy – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Hameed-c2811, Pakistan’s discarded top-order batsman, has praised the changes made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the structure of domestic cricket in the country and feels that it has become more competitive this season.
Throughout the previous decade, the PCB, under different regimes, has continuously tinkered with the configuration of the sport at the national level. Some of the former officials gave preference to regional cricket; whereas, there
were many who believed that departmental cricket is better, taking into account the social conditions in the country.
The current board, under Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, also made some changes before the start of the season this year, separating regional cricket from departments. The on-going President’s Trophy is being played among the departmental teams only;
whereas, the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy will be contested by the regions.
While speaking to Pakpassion, Hameed, who has been out of the national team since the controversial tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in 2010, expressed that the quality of the sport in the President’s Trophy is extremely high, with most of the high-profile
players taking part in the tournament.
In http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, the departmental teams such as HBL, NBP and PIA are much stronger than the regional teams, with all the star players preferring to play for their employer. Yasir feels that the level of competitiveness has jumped up in
the on-going event as there are no weak teams.
“It’s a good move. It’s a tough competition as all the departments are playing. It’s not easy for an individual - it’s a tough time. The competition levels are increasing and it’s a good thing,” Hameed expressed. “It’s more competitive
than last season. Last season there were regional teams and departmental teams, and although the departments did play each other, this year only departments are playing each other.”
The stylish batsman further added that the country had a similar domestic cricket structure in the 1990s, which produced a number of brilliant players who served Pakistan at the highest stage of the game.
“I remember back in 1998 we also had only departmental teams being included and used the Grays ball. It feels like the revival of domestic cricket and it’s a good thing,” said the top-order batsman.
