I've finally figured out how to tone brassy hair after bleaching ... goodbye expensive hairdressers!! ... & forget weak toners (unless you've already got almost platinum hair they hardly work) or using ash colours (they turn yellow hair green, more often than not).
I now use a very (and I mean VERY) diluted hair dye application in violet. You know, those fun funky definitely-not-natural looking colours that are cheap to buy as well ? Use it after shampooing (as it will set into the hair better) and before conditioning with a protein treatment.
It's great!! I now have beautiful blonde rather than yellow hair. I love the control this method gives me! I use a tint brush to apply, and you can make it a little stronger where needed (be careful over platinum or foils ... or you can end up with purple streaks!)
Use a blue rather than violet to tone orangey areas (they're cheap enough to buy a couple of shades, so patchy hair can be fixed up!). Or you can also use a grape colour to to give you a strawberry blonde or cool baby pink effect! Yes, they fade, but so do other weaker (and waste of money!) toners!
Anyone else tried this??
Warning: experiment on a sample of hair for the strength .. it's really easy to use too much ... I use a tiny "dot" of colour to a whole cup of water, and that's strong enough to tone without giving me colour. At that rate, these tubes will last me forever!
