The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 midfielder has made it clear that Manchester City should do better in the UEFA Champions League if they want to be regarded as a big club in European football as the likes of Manchester United and even
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 have done well in the competition over the last five years...
Yaya Toure has revealed his ambition to make a mark in the UEFA Champions League with Manchester City as it is vital for the club to carry forward their confidence from their Premier League win last season into European football.
Manchester City did play in the UEFA Champions League last season but their campaign was an abysmal one plagued by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Tevez.
The Citizens failed to qualify past the group stages of the tournament and thus were relegated to the Europa League where they failed to impress as well. Toure won the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona before moving to Manchester
City and his vast experience will help them compete against other European powers in the Champions League but there is still a lack of focus in the Manchester City camp when it comes to European football.
With the threat of Manchester United lurking in the background as far as Premier League football is concerned, many fans might prefer City to make the Premier League their main priority over Champions League football.
Toure said, "We need to go further and win the Champions League to get the respect of other clubs. We need to win a couple of cups. It will be tough but I have a lot of confidence in the squad. We were missing the experience last
time in the Champions League.”
He added, "The Champions League is not like other competitions, as you have those three games at home and three away. You have to make sure you win your home games and get a couple of points away. Last year we had 10 points [in
the group stage], which would normally take you to the second round."
Manchester City’s midfielder will hope that Mancini’s men can do better this time around as they do have the squad to compete comfortably on both fronts, i.e. the Premier League as well as the UEFA Champions League.
