Yaya Toure confirms commitment to Manchester City
Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has said his focus lies solely on winning trophies for Roberto Mancini's team once he returns from his knee injury.
Before joining City this summer, Toure spent three successful seasons with Spanish champions Barcelona. In Catalonia, Toure won two La Liga titles, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.
But despite claims that players have been attracted to City by the club's lavish wage bill, Toure insisted that his title ambitions remain intact in the Premier League.
"Yes, Barcelona is an amazing club – I enjoyed being there and I won trophies with them," he told City's official website. "But I am here now at Manchester City and that is my only focus. I want to help City win trophies now. I don't know how much time it
will take, and we definitely want to win something this season, but it is important to me and the team that we win a trophy, and then another."
Goes two ways in the City midfield
Toure, who is currently on the sidelines with a knee injury, has made four league appearances this season, establishing himself as a defensive stalwart for the team despite worthy competition from Gareth Barry, Nigel de Jong and Patrick Vieira in central
midfield.
In City's Europa League tie with Juventus two weeks ago, the midfielder hit a precise through ball for Adam Johnson to put the sides level, showing that it's not only his defensive game that can be utilized by Mancini.
"I need to be careful about coming back," said Toure, who will not rush his return from injury. "England is not the same football as Spain, and a knee injury can be more difficult here. I want to come back quickly but it might need more time."
Second-placed City travel to face Blackpool in the league on Sunday, but it's uncertain whether Toure will partake.
