Yaya Toure defends brother Kolo over failed drug test
Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has come to the defence of Kolo Toure, claiming that his brother would never use an illegal performance enhancing drug. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kolo-c21278 recently tested positive for a prohibited substance, resulting in him being suspended from
playing for the club until his case is pending with the Football Association (FA).
The 29-year-old has claimed that the substance found in his system came from a slimming tablet. The former Arsenal defender faces a ban of up to two years if he is found guilty of the charges against him.
Yaya Toure believes that his brother would never willfully ingest an illegal substance, claiming that his brother is not a cheat. He said, “Kolo is a sane person - he did not use any substance that was illegal. The squad is affected because Kolo is an important
man for us and one of our captains. So we want a quick solution to this problem.”
He added that the team believed Kolo would come back strongly from the incident. Yaya Toure said that he had joined Manchester City due to the insistence of his brother, and it would be difficult for him to play without him.
Kolo Toure’s former boss, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger shares Yaya’s views. The Gunner boss believes that Toure is not a cheat. However, he claimed that the defender should have been more careful.
Wenger said, "He is devastated but legally, what is forbidden is forbidden. The mistake he made is not to have asked the Manchester City doctor whether he could take it or not. It was completely the kind of stupid thing that can happen when you're punished
in life.”
He added, "I don't think there's a desire there to do something wrong and hide it."
Until the matter is resolved, Kolo Toure has been suspended. The maximum penalty for the offence is a two-year ban. However, the defender could get off with just a warning if the FA decides that there was no intent on Toure’s part to cheat.
Kolo Toure’s future will become clear in the coming weeks.
