Yaya Toure says Manchester City can emulate Barcelona in near future
Yaya Toure claims that Manchester City have the quality and passion to become a better team than http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in the near future.
The Spanish giants have been tipped as the best team in the world after their impressive run of form and their memorable 5-0 win over Real Madrid in the ongoing 2010-11 season. Moreover, this season’s top three FIFA players, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296, Xavi Hernandez
and Andres Iniesta are all Barcelona players.
However, Yaya Toure, who was a fan favourite at Barcelona before he made a move to Eastlands in 2010, thinks Manchester City are not even near Barcelona at present but concedes it would not be long before City will be at the same level as Barca.
“You cannot compare Barcelona with City right now because Barca are at the top and have top-quality players. They have Leo Messi, Xavi, Andres Iniesta and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dani-Alves-c9869, who are fantastic. But we are still signing new players,” said Toure.
“In a couple of years we could be better than Barcelona. What we need to do is continue to work hard and improve with every game. I keep saying to my brother http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kolo-c21278 and my family that City have great players but we need to continue to work hard to become great,”
he added.
Manchester City have been one of the favourites to win this season’s Premier League title since the start of the campaign. However, Roberto Mancini’s recent derby defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford has ruled them out of Barclays Premier League
crown contention. The Sky Blues are currently placed third in the League standings and are eight points behind the League leaders Manchester United.
However, Manchester City are being tipped to win this season’s Europa League. Mancini’s men have been exceptional in Europe, finishing first in their Europa League group and are already through to the knockout stage of the competition.
The Eastlanders are also potential contenders to make it to the final of the FA Cup. Manchester City thrashed League One side Notts County by five goals to qualify for the quarterfinal of the competition and will face Aston Villa for a place in the semis.
However, Yaya Toure insisted that Manchester City’s ultimate target is to qualify for their first-ever UEFA Champions League spot.
