Ye Shiwen captures Women’s 200m IM gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Ye Shiwen of China captured gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on foremost day of the sixth stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Beijing, China on Friday, November 2.
Shiwen, who occupied two gold medals at the 2012 London Olympic Games, continued her unravelling effort in the playoff and defended her title in an easy manner.
With her persistent efforts, she remained in a lead of two body lengths over her closest rival and hit the wall with a nice effort of 2 minutes and 06.10 seconds for gold medal.
She was followed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed 2.12 seconds behind and occupied silver medal of the event by producing a time of 2 minutes and 08.22 seconds.
Jakabos was followed by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who stayed 0.13 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall as third position holder by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 08.35 seconds.
The third position holder was traced by Min Zhou, who stayed 2.18 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end as fourth best finisher by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 10.53 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Qing Li, who was 0.79 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.32 seconds.
Li was chased by Xinyi Chen, who was only a half body length behind and transpired on the finishing end as sixth best finisher by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 11.80 seconds.
Chen remained just 0.02 seconds ahead of Kotuku Ngawati of Australia, who tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.82 seconds.
Ngawati was followed by Wenrui Zhu, who stayed significantly slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 15.38 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Shiwen received massive admiration from the audience for her notable efforts and said that she would try her level best to continue the same at upcoming World Championships.
