Ye Shiwen pockets Women’s 400m IM gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Ye Shiwen of China pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on day two of the sixth stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Beijing, China on Saturday, November 3.
The Chinese star stifled hopes of her competitors in the distant IM discipline as she raked gold medal of the event. With her notable efforts, Shiwen faced no difficulty for her opponents and secured gold medal of the race.
She remained in a body length lead over her opponents and tapped the wall for gold medal with a timing of 4 minutes and 26.93 seconds.
The champion was chased by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who stayed 0.87 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall as second best finisher by producing a time of 4 minutes and 27.80 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed nearly three and a half body lengths behind and emerged on the wall as third position holder with a timing of 4 minutes and 31.28 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Xinyi Chen, who stayed 2.45 seconds behind and concluded her race in fourth best place by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 33.73 seconds.
Chen was chased by Min Zhou, who stayed considerably slower from her foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing end as fifth position holder by touching the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 37.66 seconds.
Zhou was chased by Miyu Otsuka of Japan, who was 0.64 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as sixth fastest swimmer by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 38.30 seconds.
Otsuka was trailed by Wenxian Pang, who was 1.23 seconds behind and stayed prominent for seventh position by completing her race in a time of 4 minutes and 39.53 seconds.
Pang was followed by Alanna Bowles of Australia, who was 3.30 seconds slower and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 42.83 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, Shiwen received massive admiration from the audience for her gruelling efforts and raked awards and accolades at the victory ceremony of the event.
