Ye Shiwen shatters world record of Women’s 400m IM – 2012 London Olympic Games
Chinese expert and world champion, Ye Shiwen shattered the world record of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on initial day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatic Centre on Saturday, July 28.
The 16-year-old Shiwen stunned the aquatic crowd with her astonishing efforts in the 400m IM. Shiwen, who won gold medal of the 200m IM at the 2011 World Championships and finished fifth in the 400m event, remained prominent for the gold spot from the start
of the race.
With her invincible efforts, Shiwen showed no mercy to her challengers and reached the finishing blockade for gold medal in a time of 4 minutes and 28.43 seconds.
Shiwen was followed by Elizabeth Beisel of USA, who remained three body lengths slower from giving her a tough time and finished second by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 31.27 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Li Xuanxu of China, who stayed only one and a half body length apart and sprinted her way towards the finishing end for bronze medal by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 32.91 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was secured by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who was 0.58 seconds apart and tapped the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 33.49 seconds.
Subsequently, Hosszu remained half body length faster from Hannah Miley of Great Britain, who cruised her way towards the finishing blockade for fifth position with an effort of 4 minutes and 34.17 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed exhausting efforts of Stephanie Rice of Australia and Caitlin Leverenz of USA for sixth fastest spot of the race.
Both swimmers engaged each other in a neck-to-neck battle but failed to escape each other over the finishing blockade and ended sixth in the event with identical timings of 4 minutes and 35.49 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Spain, who was 0.13 seconds apart and posted a time of 4 minutes and 35.62 seconds.
In addition, Shiwen was very happy with her accomplishment at the Olympic Games.
