  1. Patterson was a great heavyweight, but I can't call him a top-ten heavy of all time.  Don't fault him for losing to Ali and Liston.  Ali beat dang near everyone. . . Patterson is in good company.  And the Liston fight was "not advised" to be taken at all by D'Amato. . . . Patterson demanded the fight, to his credit.

  2. um... ok i thought this was yahoo questions until you made that statement

  3. The top fighters Patterson beat were Johansson twice, Eddie Machen, George Chuvalo, Oscar Bonavena, Henry Cooper, and the great Archie Moore to become the youngest champion to that time, but I believe Moore was 43 years old.

  4. Every boxer, with a few exceptions,  loses but I think Patterson was good for a few years....

  5. even after his losses to liston and his first loss to ali, he came back to almost beat quarry and ellis (and to many, he did win those fights).

it was no disgrace loosing to ali and liston, and he twice avenged the loss to johansson, and the loss to maxim is also disputed, so patterson was a better fighter than some give him credit for.

  6. the list fighters that never lost a fight isn't very long. besides liston was an animal, like tyson,he got into pattersons head(then his ***).that still doesn't mean he wasn't a good fighter, YO !!!
