Year of change for Houston Astros as they move to American League - MLB Update
The Houston Astros are all about change in 2013. They have new logos, uniforms, a new manager and will even be playing in a new league, moving to the American League from the National League. However, what they will be seeking the most is a change in fortune
in the new season and most certainly better results at the end of the season in 2013.
The team hit rock bottom in 2011 and 2012 as they lost over a hundred games in both years. They will be moving to the AL West, thought to be the toughest group amongst the three in the American League. The team will be looking to raise its game in order
to show a noticeable improvement in 2013.
Bo Porter, the manager of the Astros, believes that results are not something that can be controlled but how they come about can be. The team will be looking to perform well in order to get better.
"You can't worry about the end result so much; you have to more so worry about the portion that you can control, which is the process," Porter said.
He also has a clear path in his head to get better. He knows that he has a young team at hand and he will make every effort during Spring Training and even the regular season to teach his men. Bo wants his players to understand that they are a part of the
big league because they deserve to be there and they have to play accordingly.
He said, "We will spend the entire spring, the entire season, each and every game, taking advantage of teachable moments, because we have a young ballclub and we want them to understand that this is the Major Leagues and you're in the Major Leagues because
we believe you are a Major League player."
Along with some experienced campaigners, there is plenty of young talent available in the Astros lineup, be it in shape of Jarred Cosart and Jonathan Singleton. There are a number of other players in the Houston ball club who can deliver the goods including
second baseman Jose Altuve, catcher Jason Castro and infielder Jed Lowrie.
The Houston Astros at the moment are in a recovery and rebuilding phase at the back of two poor shows. They will be hoping to work really hard for the team to make some sort of impact in 2013 or even in 2014.
The ball club will want to keep their spirits high and learn from its lessons. With tough competitors, the Astros will get plenty of opportunity to improve and if they are willing, there is no reason why they are unable to turn things around in a couple
of seasons and be contenders once again.
