  1. I say yes.

  2. I vote for year round and life long.

We should learn all the time.

  3. It wouldn't be continuous school.

When I was in school, it was year round, but, we went for 45 days (still got our weekends off)

And then, we had a 15 day break, then went back for 45 days, then had a 15 day break... etc...

    It's better, in my opinion.

  4. No way, when I think of all the wonderful summer memories I had as a kid and remember that feeling I got on the last day of school for the year, just knowing that all you had up ahead was a carefree summer of playing and just being a kid, I would be so sad for my children to have to give that up.  Kids need some time to be kids and not have to worry about school, homework, schedule, etc.

  5. yes i think school waste months in review because kids forget things they never got into their brains right the 1st time

i think for homeschooling, you should do year round, but much lighter schedule in the spring/summer

  6. I can certainly see the merits of working year round and indeed do so. However, in the summer I devote myself to educational pursuits of particular interest to me. For instance, last year I read classics, plays, newspapers; practiced my German; explored the Russian Revolution and Regency-era England;  investigated etiquette; stargazed; hiked and swam; and so on. I don't take any formal classes, but nevertheless learn an awful lot.

  7. I don't think so, you should go to www.pacesinfo.com

  8. I do not like the idea of year round schooling. Its too much. especially home schooled...when do the kids get a break?...might as well have school on the weekends too

  9. yes, http://www.supervision-management.com/

  10. I think as a nation we would be better off having year round school.

  11. We learn throughout the year, and take time off when it is needed, or the family decides that we will plan a vacation.

It is best for children/young adults to learn from the beginning that the real world continues to function all year long, and does not allow us to take three months off during the summer time, unless you are independently wealthy, or take unpaid leave.

The US is the only country I have ever lived in that has such a school year set up, and it is way outdated to say the least.

Having a fall, Christmas, spring, and short summer break of about 5 to 6 weeks, is more than sufficient, and much better for the students as well.

  12. No; it's really important that the homeschooled kids get a break.  If we believe in unschooling or that life is also learning; then the summer will be a summer of learning while they're enjoying the sunshine...  It's good for the mom to have a break too...  Gardening, rest, planning...  and praying and asking God for direction.  It's a good time for family trips too...  Make the most and help the kids not to be resentful later in life; help them LOVE school and their vacation too!

  13. no, i think kids work hard enough during the year they need the summer off, but troubled kids should have to attend year round.

  14. No, I quite enjoy having time off to vacation.

  15. never

  16. I think children get burned out enough having to be in school all day and then including the homework piled on top at night. A lot of times 3-4 hours worth and even Kindy having an hour worth of homework. This is getting out of hand. They need to have Summer vacation so kids can just be kids. To be goofy and play and relax. We all need that time.

  17. Not for me.  I need the time off of the regular schedule of schooling my children.

  18. If there was shorter school hours then yes. I think for all schools it should be an option. Either you could work longer hours and not have to go year around or work shorter hour and work year around.

I'm homeschooled and I'm going to work over the summer but not as harsh as am now.

  19. We homeschool and year-round "schooling" is best for us.

This is the homeschool section, btw.  So those here don't "go" to school.

  20. We homeschool, and my 10yo decided to year-round school.  He gets June off (camps, family vacation, etc.) and December (holiday rush, the weather is so cold and gray neither of us feel like doing anything).  These "off" times give him the break that he needs, and 2-3 weeks into them he's usually ready to do school again.

It works for us, he enjoys it, and he doesn't have a chance to forget all of the skills he spent the year learning, so he doesn't have to spend the first month of the new school year in review - he can move into things that are actually interesting :-)

  21. We school year round... we take more frequent, smaller breaks when the weather is nicest or around holidays. We work through the icky dog days of summer when there isn't much to do outdoors.

  22. we have done it both ways.  It depends on the year for us.  We have two boys with Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome who spend a lot of time in the hospital....and we've had neurosurgeries, etc....so we do what works for that year---  we try to work hard so we can have a summer break.....but at the same time, when we have surgery and recovery and then have to make a 5th trip to CCHMC in a year to spend a week.....we try not to sweat it because year-round is an option.

You've got to do what works for your family.
