Question:

Yearly cost of an above ground pool?

I have an above ground pool that is heated. It's an 18 foot circular pool that is 4 feet deep. From the end of May to the end of August we heat it on an average of twice a week. The pump runs about 7 hours everyday during the summer. The pool is closed from early September to late May. We close it ourselves. We obviously use chlorine, other chemicals, weekly shock, etc... Does anyone have a very educated guess at how much it costs yearly to run our above ground pool? Thanks a lot!

  1. well you have to use the shock abit but its about 4 bucks a pop. and the other stuff you check every day but don't' have to use it much. so i would say maybe 15. a week or so. we do our own maintenance on the pool clean it and stuff so its not expensive. you could figure yours by how you buy it actually you buy the shock in large quantities and stuff and the chlorine is by bucket and its cheap to buy the big one and it does last.

  2. Running it for the whole year???

Is that what you are asking?

Geezzz, my electric bill shot up at least $150.00 per month more, just for the months of May through Sept.  We just closed ours.

We have a little bigger above ground pool than you.

We run our filter 7hrs also.

Chemicals aren't so bad because I use shock rather than using tablets.  We found it to be more effective and I have more control over the levels.

Shock can be expensive but I think it is well worth it.

I get the one that is a 6 in one type.  Controls algae too.

I also use the other chemicals for the PH, but that is a one time deal.

I also have a solar cover which helps with the chemicals not being burned out by the sun.

I can't really give you an educated guess, but I do know that it can become very costly.

  3. About $400 - $700.  Depends on what supplies you buy and how often you buy chemicals.  Since you want an average - $550 for 3 months :)
