  1. yeast is a fungus.

vegetarians/ vegans don't eat things in the animalia kingdom. yeast isn't in that kingdom.

  2. Considered both a vegetarian and vegan dietary product.

I quick look in the dictionary will show you that yeast is most def. not an animal.  But if such is a problem for you - then most def. do not eat it.

  3. Yeast is a fungus.  Not an animal. And what does alcohol have to do with it.  It is a by-product of yeast metabolism and doesn't hurt the yeast a bit.  Digesting sugar is their number one goal in life.

Go ahead make a little unicellular organism happy, drink alcohol!

  4. yes it is especially for vegans we use it instead of other products to make bread and things for consistency

  5. Yeast is a culture, but it is considered as 'fungus'. Fungi are allowed by both Vegetarians and Vegans.

Alcohol and Wines are different stories. Most of them use Isinglass (Fish byproduct) and not allowed for vegetarians. Some use Potassium Casein (dairy byproduct) to clarify and not allowed by Vegans

  6. yes it is vegetarian. it is a fungus.  some alcohol is out of limits to vegetarians though, since some use gelatin, fish products, or other animal ingredients in the processing and refining of the product.

  7. No, it's a form of microorganism classified as a fungi. It is not an animal.

  8. Yeast isn't an animal. It's in entirely different biological kingdom than animals, and vegetarians have no moral obligation to avoid any other biological kingdom aside from the animal kingdom (for instance, insects and fish are animals and therefore aren't vegetarian, that seems to be another aspect of confusion). Another note: not all alcohol is made with yeast.

  9. Its a fungus. Vegetarians can have it.

  10. "isn't yeast technically an animal"

Uh, where the h**l did you hear that?

    Yeasts are fungi.

Mushrooms have more in common with animals than yeast does and mushrooms are only similar because they are multicellular organisms.

  11. No, yeast is NOT a member of the animal kingdom.  It's a member of the fungi kingdom, just like mushrooms.  Fungi have no nervous system and cannot perceive or experience pain.  There's nothing remotely un-veg*n about yeast.

Some alcohols are avoided by veg*ns not because of yeast, but because of slaughter byproducts used in the fining process (some beers are fined with isinglass, from the swim bladder of fish, or with gelatin and some wines are fined with gelatin or even blood products.)
