Yelena Isinbayeva resolves to send a serious message to rivals at DN Galan – Samsung Diamond League
Yelena Isinbayeva, the 29-year-old pole vaulter from Russia, who also happens to be the world record holder, is all set to regain her World Championships title at the upcoming IAAF World Championships in Athletics.
The veteran athlete, who is a two-time Olympic and five-time world champion, will test her potential for one final time at the DN Galan – Samsung Diamond League meet on Friday, July 29, in Stockholm.
However, marking her dominance on the field she is facing will not be an easy task for the winner of the IAAF Golden League series of 2007, as to hinder her way from prevailing on the track will be athletes like Martina Strutz, Silke Spiegelburg, Fabiana
Murer, Svetlana Feofanova and Angelica Bengtsson.
Emerging at DN Galan is important for Isinbayeva for two reasons. First, it was this very track where she marked a meet record three years ago for jumping as high as 4.85m. Being used with the environment, it will not be difficult for her to outperform her
rivals. Secondly, the mishaps she has faced in past couple of weeks were indeed confidence busters and to regain her confidence for appearing on the Daegu field, it is imperative for her to send strong signals to her world championships rivals.
Recently, Isinbayeva enjoyed a confidence boosting gesture displayed by Valentin Balakhnichev, when he made her appearance ensured at the World Championships contest in Daegu without her participating at the National Championships which was held to finalise
the team for the global athletics event.
Valuing this tremendous support, the vaulter said, “Well my last two World Championships (Berlin and Doha) were not good at all and my main objective this year is to regain my world outdoor title. Especially with missing the outdoor season last year, I want
to show that I am still the best vaulter in the world and that nothing has changed.”
For paying back this huge support by her countrymen with a WC title, Isinbayeva is not ready to allow herself to relax, rather, she is completely focused on sustaining her form and fitness and is all set to overcome all odds that may hinder her way from
bagging the most prestigious athletics title in pole vault.
