Yelena Isinbayeva to contest at the Stockholm DN Galan Meeting – Athletics news
As the DN Galan Meeting approaches, athletes from around the world are rushing towards ensuring their participation in the event. The race, which is a part of the Samsung Diamond League Series and is set to commence on July 29 in Stockholm, is also going
to feature Russian pole-vaulter, Yelena Gadzhievna Isinbayeva.
Isinbayeva, the 29-year-old veteran, is a two-time Olympic champion and five-time World Champion. The enthusiastic athlete is also the current record holder for the discipline. For her formidable performances, which have also been translated well into the
number of titles she has bagged, Isinbayeva is known as the greatest female pole-vaulter ever.
Besides the World and Olympics titles, she boasts of bagging prestigious titles at nine different continental and global platforms. She has emerged at the World outdoor, indoor and European indoor and outdoor events, besides claiming a number of local events.
Amid the performance she has always believed in displaying, she won the IAAF Golden League back in 2007 and 2009.
However, for not being able to continue with her performance at the 2009 and 2010 World Championships, she decided to opt for a hiatus of one year. Now, after announcing her participation at this year’s DN Galan Meeting, the Russian athlete’s fans will certainly
be happy to see her in action all over again.
After being out from the game for a significant number of days, Isinbayeva made her first comeback at the Heusden competition last Saturday, where despite encountering challenging weather conditions, the determined athlete marked a 4.60m high victory.
Indeed, the Russian was happy over the display of this meticulous performance as it not only showed the acumen of the game she posses, but also her fighting spirit that she has always exhibited while grappling for titles. Dwelling upon her success after
a long gap, the only words the Russian star could come up with were, “It’s good to be back in business.”
With Isinbayeva joining the field at Stockholm, spectators can rightfully expect to watch an electrifying performance, but her return must not be taken lightly by the rivals that are expected to face the former IAAF Female ‘Athlete of the Year’.
