Question:

Yellow, spotty leaves on my poplar?

My hybrid poplar is developing yellow, spotty (tiny spots) leaves--especially new leaves as they sprout. This happened last yr at this time, too. What could it be? What should I do? I love this tree--it's grown about 4 ft this yr alone!

  1. Sounds like Leaf Spot to me (septoria speciosa).  Young new shoots and leaves are susceptible. Go to any WalMart, Home Depot or Lowes garden center and pickup a fungicide made by Ortho called.. "Garden Disease Control" with "Daconil 2787". This is one of the best multi-use fungicides on the market toady and I personally have used this for over 20 yrs with great success. This will not repair the already damaged leaves however, as most fungicides will not. It will however, prevent any further damage from the disease from spreading (control). Be sure and follow the directions on the label. The only drawback is that you will need to mix up the spray yourself, which is rather easy to do. Hope this answers your question...
