Question:

Yellow Eyes: genetic explanation?

My friend has truly yellow eyes. I mean that the irises of his eyes are truly yellow...not yellow-green or yellow in some lighting, but simply yellow. His genetic background is Irish/Scottish/English. I've never seen eyes like his and all of his 4 siblings have blue or green eyes. So what's up with him??

  1. I think hepatitis changes eye colour to yellow ?

  2. That is a mewkus infection. Thats' not a genetic explanation lol

  3. The iris can be divided up into 3 sections: the frontal iris epithelial, stroma, and back iris epithelial.

He has very low levels of melanin in his frontal epithelial cells allowing light to pass though to the stroma. He has a high deposit of something called lipochrome in his iris' stroma. This is a fat-soluble chemical that is a successor to 'carotene', and carotene is an orange-yellow to red crystalline pigment.
