  1. There is a documentary on the Yellowstone Caldera on the History channel that you might

find interesting.  They talked about the history of the area and discussed the possibilities with some of the geologists and what they are seeing.  You might also be able to find it on a DVD at History Channel.com

  2. Scientists estimate it will erupt again in the next 300,000 years.  Chances are, you'll be long gone by the time it does.

  3. I can only hope your "prediction" is nothing worse than eating some bad beef.

IF Yellowstone does "erupt", a better part of the U.S. will have a serious, critical problem.

Yellowstone is classified as a Mega cauldron, with about 50 times the energy of Mt. St. Helens.

The History channel had a special report and from what they have learned, the "ground" is shifting in one direction and declining in the other end. Very bad, bad news if this happens.

  4. We forget that the earth is constantly shifting and changing. It will perpertually do so. Yellowstone has a ton of energy under the ground all of which is very unstable. Just visiting one can see the pure pressure of gases built up under the surface. Also there have been thousands of tiny earthquakes in the last 20 years. It is only a matter of time until on of these tiny shifts brings the whole delicate balance under to earth to explode. As per your lifetime, who knows, you could be 10 or 90.

  5. I travel through yellowston at least 10+ times a year. The layout is changing and just last week there was a lady who stepped off one of the walking paths and her foot sank through the ground into one of the bubbling pools. The environment is changing in there and you can kinda tell.

If yellowstone does blow.... it would change the environment of the world and over 80% of north america would be gone.  There is a pretty cool documentary out there... I'm sure you could find clips of it on youtube.

  6. leaving aside the Hollywood style disaster, and Nostradamus type  predictions. The general opinion among geologists is that it will blow sometime  between 100,000 and 200, 000 years.

  7. Well, the world is overpopulated. Nature might just be timing things to keep the balance. What a depressing thought.

  8. i have the same feeling. there is a good film about yellowstone erupting called supervolcano which you can get from amazon, it has a documentary about it after the film
