  1. Sounds like "dog vomit" fungus, which really isn't a fungus.  It is naturally occuring, harmless, and breaks down organic matter, returning nutrients to the soil.  The first time I saw it in my mulch, I freaked out until I read about it and decided to leave it alone.  It was gone in two or three weeks.  I later saw it on some immature compost, and again it went away.  If you want it gone earlier, some people say you can rake it up but I haven't tried that.  I don't have conclusive evidence, but it seems that "dog vomit" seems to be particularly happy when it has a nice dose of nitrogen on woody materials, like when you fertilize over mulch.

  2. It is a mold or spore, almost kin to a mushroom. It is generally found on hardwood mulch. It is caused by moisture and organisms in the vascular system of the tree bark, that is decaying.

It is, how ever, not harmful. Just unsightly. And it generally disappears on its own after a couple days. Might be more though.

Looks like a dog threw up in the flower bed.

  3. sounds like fungus, it'll turn brown and be gone in like two days.

I have this in my wood chips after a rain sometimes. Good luck
