Yen-Hsun Lu ousts Matt Reid to reach the quarters – Caloundra International 2012 CH
Top seed, Yen-Hsun Lu, stomped over the local competitor, Matt Reid, in straight sets at the Caloundra International 2012 on Wednesday. He clobbered a 6-3, 6-2 victory over the 21-year-old Aussie to book a spot in the last eight at this ATP Challenger Tour
event taking place at the Caloundra Tennis Club.
In an hour and eleven minutes long marathon, Lu easily pulled out the victory without facing any barrier. He required conversion of three break opportunities to his advantage and eventually registered a straight set victory over the Aussie in their second
meeting. The challengers previously met each other at the Burnie Challenger last week and after this match, Lu maintained his winning record against Reid.
The 28-year-old assertively entered the opening set and held his serve in the first game. He then maintained consistency in his game and bagged remaining serves without facing any breakpoint. Lu then capitalised on one out of two break chances in the sixth
game, eventually sealing the opener by winning six games to three.
After Reid held his serve in the opening game, the Taiwanese went berserk and unleashed flurry of groundstrokes to wipe out the next five games in a row. He then held his serve once more and clinched the set with a 6-2 score line.
All in all, the highest ranked player of the tournament outclassed Reid completely. He clobbered a slightly higher first serve share but spectacularly clicked 23 out of 25 points on it. He also smashed four aces and ended the match with 58 points as opposed
to the Aussie’s 42.
Next in line for the top seed is another local star, Benjamin Mitchell. The fifth seeded Aussie trashed his compatriot, John-Patrick Smith, in straight sets to set-up this date.
Fourth seed, Greg Jones, will join Lu in the quarter-finals. He trashed Luke Saville in straight sets to secure this spot. Jones dusted away the only breakpoint he faced and broke his fellow citizen’s serve four times, subsequently sealing the deal with
a 6-2, 6-3 success in 64 minutes. Jones also smashed seven aces and tremendously clinched 23 out of 25 points on his lower first serve share.
