Yen-Hsun Lu ousts Nick Lindahl in the opening round – Caloundra International 2012
Top seed, Yen-Hsun Lu, eased past the local qualifier, Nick Lindahl, in straight sets at the Caloundra International 2012 on Tuesday. He registered a 6-2, 6-3 victory over the world number 652 to advance into the second round at this ATP Challenger Tour
event taking place on the hard courts in Caloundra, Queensland, Australia.
The highest ranked player of the tournament showed top class performance in their fourth meeting. He not only remained on course to bag $50,000 prize money but also maintained his winning record against the Aussie.
The Taiwanese assertively entered the hard courts and earned the desiderated break in the fourth game, eventually taking a 4-1 lead. He held remaining serves without facing any real challenge and capitalised on another break chance in the last game to clinch
the set with a 6-2 score line.
Lu kept his momentum rolling into the following set and stroke out the opening three games in a row before Lindahl could keep his serve. He then maintained consistency in his game and continued plucking in remaining serves until he sealed the set by winning
six games to three.
Over the world number 62 prevailed throughout the match. He coughed more errors and manifested a lower first serve share of 65 percent as opposed to qualifier’s 70 percent. However, the Taiwanese saved both breakpoints he came across and converted three
out of five break chances to his advantage.
The 28-year-old will next confront the Matt Reid who overpowered Isaac Frost in all-Australian duel to set-up this meeting. Reid broke his compatriot’s serve four times to seal the deal with a 6-2, 6-3 success in 83 minutes.
Fourth seed Greg Jones will join the Taiwanese in the round of 16. He required two breaks, one in each set, to overpower his fellow citizen in straight sets.
The Australian seed drew the first blood in the sixth game to pocket the opener with a 6-3 win. He held his composure in the following set and earned the critical break in the seventh game, subsequently clinching the set with a 6-4 score.
Next challenge for Jones is the Australian Open juniors’ titlist, Luke Saville, who dumped his rival, Colin Ebelthite, in straight sets to book this place.
