Yen-Hsun Lu thrashes Sanam Singh in the quarter-finals – Shanghai Challenger 2012
Top seed, Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei, scored a one sided win over the 402nd player from India, Sanam Singh, in the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Challenger on Thursday.
The Taiwanese player did not face any difficulty in routing Singh, as he allowed the Indian player to win just five games in the entire match, beating him in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
Lu and Singh made a stable start, winning their serve in the first five games to take the score to 3-2 in favour of the former. The Taiwanese contender made two successive breakthroughs after that, grabbing four games in a row
to capture it 6-2.
The 5ft 11in tall banged in two aces and committed a single double fault. The 29-year-old kept his first serve percentage at 57 and secured 10 of the 12 points on them. He also fared quite well on the second deliveries and returns,
securing six of the nine and nine of the 14 points on them respectively. The Taiwanese did not face any break point and converted two of the seven he received in the opener.
In the second set, both players held their serve in the first three games to take the score to 2-1 in favour of Lu. The Taiwanese contender hit a blow to Singh in the fourth and consolidated on it to attain a 4-1 advantage. Lu
did not allow his Indian opponent to strike back and closed it 6-3.
The Taiwanese contestant fired two aces and did not commit any double fault, maintaining a first serve percentage of 57. The right-hander was flawless on the first deliveries, as he did not lose even a single point on them, capturing
all the 13. The Taipei resident could not put on a good show on the first returns, as he lost 11 of the 15 points but he compensated by grabbing seven of the 10 second deliveries and six of the nine returns. Just like the opener, Lu did not provide any break
opportunity to his opponent. The Taiwanese participant utilised the only break opportunity he created in the second set.
Lu needed just one hour and 21 minutes to post this easy victory over his Indian rival.
The Taiwanese contender will face the fourth seeded Japanese player, Yuichi Sugita, in the semis. The Japanese player knocked out Ze Zhang of China to book his place at the last-four stage of the event.
