Yeoman, a strong competitor for the Friends Of Greenmount Handicap Chase
Ten four-year-old and above contenders have lined up for the Friends Of Greenmount Handicap Chase that is scheduled for Monday, 12th November at Limerick over two miles, three furlongs and 120 yards. The prize money set for the race is €5,520. Besides the D. J. Ryan trained, Yeoman, the rest have not been able to claim a race since quite a while.
The eleven-year-old bay gelding, Yeoman, has raced nine times during the new season, and could win only through the very recent outing that was at Galway. This will be his first try at Limerick ever since the 2012 campaign kicked in.
The last time the Patrick J. Moore owned raced at the same race course was in the same race, but during the previous season.
He ended fourth when paired up with jockey, Patrick Mangan, while the race was won by, Hidden Present. Missing the chance to land the race by 3 ¼ lengths was the favourite entry, Bundle Of Fun.
Valanjou’s bay gelding won the Renvyle House Hotel Handicap Chase on 28th October, 2012 at Galway race course over two miles and a furlong.
Joining teams with the jockey, A. P. Heskin, he got on to chase the leaders, ranked fifth when there was still another round to complete, and got driven back to the sixth position when there remained the final two furlongs. Just when the straight was around the corner, the bay gelding notched up to the third ranking, and took the lead when racing inside the final furlong.
The duo defeated Venture Lazarus by two lengths.
Coming at terms with the third position was, Muzak.
He has the highest of the chances to beat the rest of the contestants because the distance, venue, and the level of competition are nothing new for him, if anything, his experience over the year should have enhanced.
He will be ridden by jockey, David Splaine, today and will need to look out for, Under The Spell, who is paired up with the rider, A. E. Lynch, who has 27% strike rate as he has rode seven winners out of the last twenty-six mounts.
