You are probably thinking of Manatees. Some people say that sailors used to think they were mermaids....or women....or something like that. If they thought that, they'd probably been at sea too long, but anyway, here's a pic. of them.

Ya,I do believe that.I've seen it in Discovery channel and my teacher showed us the skeleton of a mermaid in internet.They look uglier than I thought....

Yeah, they're real.  They live in the oceans, some live among us as they can transform into a human in order to hide the fact they're a mermaid.  I've turned 14 people into mermaids.

There are no actual mermaids like the ones shown as half human and half fish. Someone might say there's a resemblance between mermaids and such animals as the manatee and dugong, but I don't see that much resemblance. Some human freaks have had hands and feet joined into fin-like extremities, but that's not the legendary mermaid either. Other answers to other questions indicate that the science channels on TV are showing sensational nonsense too often. Maybe that boosts ratings, but it's dishonest. Fake mermaid skeletons have been made by sewing the top half of a monkey to the bottom half of a fish.
