Yesica Yolanda Bopp nails Anabel Ortiz to defend his titles successfully – Boxing News
Yesica Yolanda Bopp, the current WBA and WBO female light flyweight champion, successfully defended her streak and the dual titles by collecting a unanimous decision over surging Mexican pugilist Anabel Ortiz, the current WBC Silver female minimumweight
champion, in a 10-round bout held on May 24, 2012.
The duo headlined the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Osvaldo Rivero of O.R. Promotions and the ring for the Thursday night event was set up at Estadio FAB situated in Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina.
The event was co-headlined by the non-title eight-round bout between Roberto Domingo Sosa and Javier Armando Rodriguez and the show was televised live on Argentina’s state channel TyC Sports.
Yolanda, 28, possessed a clear upper hand over her Thursday night opponent and had substantial odds in her favour even before the bout started. The Argentinean proud was entering in her 20th career bout and boasted an undefeated streak.
Currently ranked as the World Boxing Organisation’s number one light flyweight, Bopp has never lost even a single bout and has nailed nine of her opponents by sheer knockout.
Also known as ‘Tuti’, Yolanda was defending her dual titles for the second consecutive time and was coming from an emphatic second round knockout win over Olga Julio. Her challenger, Anabel, though resides at World Boxing Organisation’s fifth rank yet was
seriously overshadowed by Yolanda’s experience and proficiency.
Ortiz, 25, has been in a total 12 bouts and emerged victorious in 10. The Mexican proud has nailed just two opponents by knockout and was coming from a two-bout win streak. Well known as the ‘Avispa’, Anabel received her last loss from Naoko Fujioka, a bout
with WBC female minimumweight title on the line.
After that loss the orthodox Anabel made a comeback and collected a win over rookie Ivonne Rosas to grab the vacant WBC Silver female minimumweight gold. Anabel was no match at all for the heavily experienced and versatile Yolanda.
Bopp not only possessed a flawless win ratio but also boasted a decent knockout ratio as well. From the very first instant, Bopp not only set the pace of the clash but kept an authoritative hand so much so that Anabel was unable to counter most of Argentinean’s
strikes.
During the fourth round, Yolanda even flattened Ortiz on the ring floor with a huge hook to the body. The bout ended and the only aspect that aided Ortiz in grabbing spectators praise was her resilience which helped her in taking the bout till the last second
of the 10-round showdown.
The judges allocated 100-90, 99-90, and 97-92 to Bopp hence denoting the Argentinean as the winner with a huge margin. With this win Yolanda has collected her 20th consecutive win and Ortiz on the other hand has unfortunately collected her third
career loss.
