Question:

Yesterday's Nadal v Djokovic one of the best recent matches?

ok so I'm watching the Hamburg tennis final live on the Tennis Channel and one of the announcers said that yesterday's match between Nadal and Djokovic was one of the top five matches that he has seen in the past five or six years (he may have said "six or seven years").

Does anyone else agree with this? I completely disagree with this because I can remember three right off hand that are very recent that I think are up there, if not better than this match.

-Last year's Wimbledon Final between Nadal and Federer

-two matches from this year's Australian Open: Federer.vs.Tipsarevic was amazing. It was so worth waking up at 3:30am to watch tennis that day! And the final of Djokovic.vs.Tsonga was also a good match.

I do not believe that a "great" match has to include a famous player.

Anyone else's thoughts?

  1. i think its one of the best matches this year... especially on clay!

  2. well,my memory isn't that great but I do agree with you on the Wimbledon final (fed vs nadal) last year. That was an incredible match and the only time I ever witnesed federer lose his cool. I have seen him lose matches but not lose his cool. We sw some exciting tennis that afternoon and some real court drama!

But I really think the Nadal vs Djokovic  Hamburg semifinal was the stuff of legend too. A great game up with the best of them.

However, you are absolutely right! A great and memorable game doesn't have to have a "name"player in it necessarily.

  3. Nadal Djoko match was excellent. I don't think its the best match in 5 or 6 years, but definitely the best so far this year on clay.

  4. i don't agree with that either. absurd at best. i mean,please,6 or 7 years?? there have been better, much more dramatic, high quality matches i've seen in that span. the one's you mention would certainly qualify. and last year's toronto final was brilliant! not to mention RG final 2006.

perhaps he meant to say,the best match of the clay season, thus far....haha

***watching the match now as well....completely shocked roger let that 5/2 escape him. he so did not take his chances at that point. another example of his lack of confidence....if that were old form rog,he would have closed that set on his serve. let's hope he doesn't dwindle again now that he's up in the second. it's obvious rafa is a bit injured and not playing as on par as he normally would....roger seriously needs to take advantage of that.
