Usually when a person gets a "normal" headache at least with me I feel pain in my forehead. Is it possible to have pain in the back of your head that's simply benign or is it a sure sign of something more serious.

  1. I would also suggest checking your blood pressure. Very often you start feeling elevated blood pressure as a headache on a back of your head.

The next thing to check would be a blood work for certain parameters as erythrocytes and thyroid function. When these numbers are abnormal patient very often is experiencing constant tension headache.

  2. There's really no such thing as a "normal" headache and symptoms can vary from person to person.  Sometimes with tension headaches you can feel pain in the back of your head and into your neck.

It's hard to say exactly what kind of headache you have or exactly what is causing it, however if it continues for more than a day or so and isn't resolved with medicines such as tylenol then I suggest seeing your doctor as soon as you can.

  3. If you have pain in the back of your head it might be due to a stiff neck.  Which might have happened because of stress or tension.  You can try putting an ice pack on the back of your head for no more than 20 minutes.
