Yesterday i asked my mom what the n word ment...?

She told me that it was a bad name for them black folks. She also said that the word was created probably in the 1500s or 1600s. I never knew they had black people then. Did my mom lie to me or were there such things a black people back then?

As a youngster one should never get into the habit of using this word which is racialistic nor other words which are considered obscene by older folks or polite society. I have known fatal fights and accidental murders being committed just because of these words being used. So be careful and sensible.  :-))

Uh, yes, there were African Americans back then. And yes, that word is used out of context, it's used a lot as a slander word for African Americans. However, it can be directed toward anyone of any race, because that word actually means "lazy". I think, back when the word was created, it wasn't meant for just the African American race, but since the Caucasian people started using it just for them, it has become an offensive, racial slur that is not politically correct anymore. So, the word should not be used.

Your mom did not lie to you.  Why would she?  The "N" word evolved from the original name that many slave owners called Black slaves.  It is an offensive racial slur and you shouldn't say it.  There has always been Black people on Earth.  The 1500s marked the beginning of the slave trade.  That is the main reason for all of the animosity between various races in America.
