Yesterday my husband called me to the kitchen and sitting on the top was a grasshopper, 2 inches long??

it was dark brown (it looked huge), it was quite slow moving and I managed to catch it and put it outside, I have never seen a grasshopper like this in England I thought they were smaller and green, can anyone else tell me if they have seen one in this country or do you think it escaped from somewhere. thank you

sounds like a locust. I feed em to my bearded dragon. Could have escaped from a neigbours house...

There are different varieties. and in different countries they have different sizes and colours.

We found a similar one in our camping gear a few years ago - it had travelled back with us from the Bay of Biscay area of France.

We checked it out and I think it was called a "Glasshouse grasshopper".  We just let it go in the garden.

sounds like a praying mantis, harmless and good for the garden
