Question:

Yet another acting question by yet another aspiring actress?

Actually, I have several questions, to be exact!

1.) What are the prospects for an aspiring actress hoping to break into the film industry at age 25 in Los Angeles, with a fairly limited acting resume?

2.) At what time of day & on which days of the week do most auditions occur?

3.) When is the best time of the day/week to schedule that "day job," to avoid conflicts with auditions & acting classes/workshops?

4.) What are the best ways to network with other actors/producers/etc?

5.) Before I have the opportunity to move out to LA, what are some things that I can do in the meantime to further the development of my acting craft & promote my marketability (aside from finishing my college education)? For example, is it worth seeking out local talent agents in what seems to be an otherwise limited/small city market?

6.) Any other brilliant pieces of advice???

Thanks so much!!

  1. Goodness, a normal person who is asking an intelligent question(s).  Am I on the right forum?  Anyway, do as much as you can as far as training.  Anything you can get, it's all good.  Almost all auditions are held during regular business hours.  So you're best off working nights.  Once you get into a real acting school out here you'll meet plenty of actors.  Anything else you care to know?  E-mail me if you want.

  2. To answer question 4:  You may want to take a look at Casted As - a new social network for actors.  It is totally free and although it just launched, it will become a great place to network and show your stuff.  You can create a professional web page for free (AKA profile) which includes your photos, history, videos, audio clips if you have them, resume, zen card, etc.  Anyhow, just passing this along as another self-promotion option.  Good luck with everything!

  3. Allen's right.  Don't listen to anybody else for this question.

  4. 1. The industry is tough when you have a limited resume, that would be your biggest obsticle. Depending on your look and ability, it could be overcome. If you love it, then do it, but be prepared to work hard.

    2. Auditions happen all the time here, you need to have a flexible schedule in order to take advantage of the opportunities. Most occur during the day, that's why most actors take restaurant and bar jobs to keep the day's clear.

    4. That's a tough one. Oddly, you are more likely to meet people that could impact your career AWAY from Los Angeles. There is a convention that is a bit pricey, but you could gather a fantastic network in a matter of days. Otherwise you're looking at showcases, one casting director at a time. 5. Do as many local projects as possible to build that resume. Student film, indie film or theatre. Do it all. Get into class as well. Believe me, the actors here in LA are in class, so keep yourself sharp and ready to audition.

    6. Don't ever let up. Luck is simply preparation meeting opportunity. If you are not ready when your moment comes, you may never get another opportunity. Best of LUCK!

  5. say one at a time

    for #1:

you have 2 start at college than get a agent and then get a career

  6. i cant answer all of them cause i live in new zealand but if you act on stage you must over pronounce all words!

    remember that!
