Yet another construction question?

Okay, here we go again. I'm building a wishing well. The base is 2 by 4 blocks cut 7 7/8 inches long in a circle, no angles. I made it a little taller than what the plans called for, so there are 192, 2 by 4 blocks. The plans say to put a 2 by 6 cap on the top and angled so the cap fits nice and snug. The diameter of the circle at the top is 43 3/4 inches. I don't have a clue to what angle to cut the 2 x 6 cap pieces, so they fit snug around this circle. Can anyone help or give me a clue?

  1. you still workin on this thing? okay, I'll try again...

don't think you will get an accurate angle trying to figure it out. i.e. 4 pcs. require 45, 8 pcs. 22.5, 16 pcs. 11.25, etc. it will probably come out to something like a 10.125 angle. how would you ever be able to set your saw to that, unless you had a micrometer?

it would be easier to take 19pcs cut about 10" long, lay them out overlapped into your final arrangement and mark them.

cut them all except the last one, and then adjust the last one as needed.

    Hope that helps.

  2. depends on how snug you want it. if you don't want to go through all the calculations

take your 2x6 and cut them in 3ft sections then start laying them out on the area to be covered, overlap each one over the end of the other one until you get the fit desired the mark and cut fit them all together before permantly attaching them incase you have to adj.or trim any cuts, then when your satisfied with the results ,attach permenatly

fill in any gaps w/wod filler and sand,&seal w/paint or stain
