Brown issues knife crime pledge

"We want to make it completely unacceptable for any teenager in particular to carry a knife. We want a presumption to prosecute anybody carrying a knife."

Surely, this is an ageist (well actually - youngist) comment the very thing that Harriet was saying she was trying to stamp out.

Also - can anyone explain to me what a 'presumption to prosecute' means?

And

"We are prepared to enforce the legislation but we will consider any new legislation that is necessary to get knives off our streets."

What is the point of having any legislation if it's not enforced?

I agree on the age issue.

The word 'presumption' used here is a legal  technical term simply meaning that is what perpetartors should expect.

I wouldn't get too het up by this it's just another example of the mp's getting the headlines to take our attention away from the fact that they are leading us into recession with the taxes they're loading us all with. Brown won't lower the tax rate on fuels so he's hoping this will deflect from the situation of us being broke every time we need to turn the heating on or fill the car up for work or have to buy food. Unfortunately it works doesn't it? because here we are talking about this and not the big issues.
