Yevgeniya Kryvoruchko, Karolina Nowak successful in opening qualifying round – BAKU CUP 2011
Yevgeniya Kryvoruchko secured a thumping 6-3, 6-2 victory over Australian wild card Lauren Breadmore on Saturday to book a second round spot at the 2011 BAKU Cup in Azerbaijan. The Ukrainian adopted a very aggrieve approach in
the match and required only one hour and 36 minutes dispatching her opponent.
Yevgeniya Kryvoruchko made a very strong start to the match she broke the challenger in the very first game of the opening set. Dashing her big forehand and backhand winners all over the court, she made most of the available opportunities.
Breaking the serve twice in the set, she took an impassable 5-2 lead. Breadmore broke back once to reduce the game score advantage of her opponent. However she stop the Ukrainian from earning a well deserved 1-0 set score lead.
Ranked 678th in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings, Kryvoruchko continued to play her natural game freely in the second set as well. Breaking the serve at regularly, she made the challenger run for her money. Her capability
to clinch big points played a vital role in deciding the outcome of the contest. Placing a lovely forehand winner down the line, she set up two match points for her and then converted the second one to complete her straight sets victory.
Kryvoruchko big and well directed serves proved to be the real difference between the two contestants at the end of the match as she fired four serve aces reached an impressive 83 percent first conversion. Her defence was also
quite incredible as she saved few certain break chances against herself.
Breadmore lacked the fire power in some areas of the game and struggled to handle the pressure to leak points at crucial stages of the match. Her weak second serve did not help the cause either. Making five costly double faults
in the match, the Australian tennis-pro was clearly shot of ideas. She will be hoping to learn from her mistakes and achieve better results on her next WTA appearance.
Karolina Nowak of Germany also earned a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 victory over Belarusian Tatiana Poutchek to advance into the second round of the competition.
Poutchek looked in great touch and committed a minimal of unforced errors in match that lasted for only one hour and 30 minutes on the hard courts of Baku. Serving with control and accuracy, she hit 86 per cent of her first serves.
Nowak is having decent time on the tour this season with almost 47 per cent winning percentage. In pursuit of her first ever WTA title, Nowak will be looking to reach a career milestone by maintaining her current form in her upcoming matches.
